T Learning, Exploring, Growing Vestavia Hills Schools: V E S T A V I A H I L L S E L E M E N T A R Y – C A H A B A H E I G H T S At Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights, service to others is a core value of the educational experience. Based on the heartwarming children's book, Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud, the concept of bucket- filling is relatable to kindergarteners through fifth graders, and even to adults. Students strive to fill buckets daily by saying nice words, helping others, including everyone, and offering compassion. Students put bucket filling into action in a significant way amidst their involvement in community service events. Throughout the year, students at Cahaba Heights are involved in a wide range of school and commu- nity service events, says School Counselor Lauren Tucker. A cornerstone of student involvement at Cahaba Heights is the opportunity to serve others through Leadership Teams. Leadership opportunities range from the weekly recycling team to the morning announcements crew. Every year, the district graduates another group of high-achieving, well-rounded, service-minded students. And those positive results start way back in kindergarten.
