M By becoming Trustees, these committed members show that they trust the Chamber to continue providing the power- ful networking, business advocacy and community-building programs that are the backbone of Vestavia Hills' strong business community. Sandra Cleveland of Berk Cleveland Rathmell Wealth Strategies, LLC, became a Chamber Trustee this year and expects this decision to benefit her business as well as "increase my awareness of Chamber benefits and activities, and motivate me to become even more involved in the Chamber and also the entire community," she says. "You can't live in Vestavia Hills and see and hear all the opportuni- ties to become engaged, and sit on the sidelines. The Chamber More than 1,100 individuals and organizations align themselves as members of the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce each year, supporting the organization's work to build stronger local businesses and maintain the high quality of life in Vestavia Hills. More than 50 of those members now designate themselves as Chamber Trustees, an enhanced category of membership that represents the highest level of support for the Chamber. not only provides significant contributions to the businesses of our community, but they are the community's biggest cheerleader and they make participating fun." David Surber of Cellular Sales, an Authorized Agent of Verizon Wireless, says his decision to become a Chamber Trustee was based on his desire "to have a larger role in the community by working with other businesses and residents." As a Trustee, Surber has been able to promote his business and explain more about what it does and why. But "just as impor- tantly, I've been able to learn about other businesses and build relationships that go beyond the cash register," he says. "People do business with people and relationships allow that to happen." Like Cleveland and Surber, growing numbers of Vestavians are looking for ways to become more deeply involved in the community and the Chamber—and Trustee membership offers a powerful way to do that. "While our membership has steadily increased over the past 10 years, what we're experiencing now is new energy and enthusiasm for both our Chamber and City," says Lisa Christopher, membership and marketing consultant at the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Com- merce. "Existing members are excited to be in the know on what's happening in our City and guests are blown away from their very first interaction with our Chamber." Members' positive experiences with the Chamber and a desire to become more deeply involved have encouraged more members than ever before to step up their support to the Trustee level," Christopher says. "Being a part of this distinguished group of members is a tangible sign of their support of our Chamber," she adds. "They recognize the positive perception associated with Chamber membership, but also have the desire to further support the body of work the Chamber carries out month after month."
