F For the 15th year in a row, Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce hosted Viva Vestavia in October 2017, an evening that offers food and wine tastings from Chamber members and venues throughout the city. Over the past 15 years, Viva Vestavia has become a local tradition, drawing crowds of more than 300 to the event, hosted at Hollywood Pools on Montgomery Highway. Ticket sales for Viva Vestavia benefits the Chamber of Commerce Foundation, which funds an annual scholarship for a Vestavia Hills High School graduate majoring in business or a related field, supports economic development projects throughout the city, and helps fund capital improvements needed at the Chamber. Throughout the event, attendees sample menu items and fine wines from participating restaurants and vote for their favorites. This year, awards went to R U T H ' S C H R I S S T E A K H O U S E for Best Food and S A M U R A I J A P A N F O R B E S T P R E S E N T A T I O N . Ruth's Chris, a longtime participant in the event, wowed attendees with its signature miniature steak sandwiches with mini sweet potato canapes. "I made sure everyone attending the show got to try our sandwiches," says Diana Krasteva, catering sales manager at Ruth's Chris Steak House. "I walked around and handed them to everyone I could and asked for feedback. I think it is important that guests know our product and verbally acknowledge that they like it.
