Each student has a framed work of art on display, "and their families enjoy being here to support the arts as well as local flavor from this great community," says art teacher Katie Hicks. "The students are really proud to see their work displayed this way and parents and businesses are happy to work together to raise funds for our school that support projects for the classroom that teachers apply for through PTO grants." While the school has traditionally hosted an art show each spring, Hicks added local food and created "Taste of the Heights" in 2015. Participating restaurants set up tables and they provide sample bites from their menus while students and their parents browse the gym, looking at student artwork. Local chefs and artists serve as judges for the art competition. "This is such a wonderful way to get our students and their families together with the community so we can celebrate all things Cahaba Heights.," Hicks says.
