Smylie Kaufman the "breathtaking views and gorgeous trails offer visitors the opportunity to take a peaceful hike with steep climbs, flat ridges, creek side paths, a bridge and waterfall," says Taneisha Tucker, library director. And that's before you even walk in the doors. P O P U L A R P R O G R A M S Many patrons visit to conduct research or check out books, periodicals or digital media, but the Library in the Forest's robust calendar of program offerings drives even greater numbers into its doors. "Almost 25,000 people attended programs at the library last year," Tucker says. "Some of the library's popular programs include upcycling, crafting and demonstrations in making things," Tucker says. For instance, patrons can attend technology classes to experience the latest computer programs or innovations. They can learn to cross-stitch, crewel, embroider or smock at a monthly Fiber Arts class. Or they can relax, relieve stress and get centered in a tai chi class or read or study while riding one of the library's fitness bikes. The Children's Department offers more than 40 programs each month, including story times and family nights for children up to age 12. For teenagers, the library offers popular programs such as open gaming, creative writing and anime. "Seasonal programming is also at the top of our list," Tucker adds. "From summer reading events for all ages to fall concerts for adults, we invite everyone in to share in these community programs. From hiking to 3D printing, the Library in the Forest has something for everyone." 48 v e s tav i a h i l l s l i v i n g 2 0 1 7
