In the mid-1980s, Vestavia Hills annexed the area that includes Rocky Ridge Square and today's Morgan Manor Apartments, and in the early 1990s, the city annexed the land south of Morgan Drive that now includes Artists Incorpo- rated, Andy's Creekside Nursery and Rocky Ridge Plaza. Morgan Properties has been there, watching—and often leading—the area's growth for almost 50 years. For instance, in June 2016, Morgan Properties launched First Fridays, a weekly event in the Rocky Ridge area that features bands, artist demonstrations, games, outdoor movies, and assorted vendors including artists, craftspeople and area businesses. Each week, the area welcomed 10 to 20 vendors, says Robin Morgan, owner of Morgan Properties. The First Fridays events were so well-received that they are scheduled to begin again in Summer 2017, with a few tweaks. "Last year we brought in outside vendors, but we are taking a different approach this year," Morgan says. "It seemed to go very well the first year. Since then, we have added a deck to the front of Moe's Original Bar B Que that's designed to accommodate a band. This year, First Fridays should have music at Moe's, music at the pergola at The Ridge Eat and Drink, games and entertain- ment at Johnny Brusco's New York Style Pizza, and music periodically at Artists Incorporated Gallery." Morgan's continued work to promote Vestavia Hills businesses earned his company a Business of the Year award. And he says his involvement with the local business community pays off for him as much as it does for others. "The Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce is a great organization for help, networking and resources," Morgan says. "In my opinion, the best advertising for the cost that a new business can get in Vestavia Hills is to join the Chamber and take advantage of the networking opportunities and the resources that they offer." " Morgan's continued work to promote Vestavia Hills businesses earned his company a Business of the Year award. And he says his involvement with the local business community pays off for him as much as it does for others. " Robin Morgan and Rob Morgan 28 v e s tav i a h i l l s l i v i n g 2 0 1 7
