D Developing the local economy remains an ongoing priority for the city of Vestavia Hills. Because sales tax collections are the primary source of funding for city services and schools, local leaders are always focused on finding new ways to stimulate the economy. But economic growth doesn't always come from outside the city, or even from within the business community. Through Vestavia Hills High School's Work-Based Learning program, students are getting valuable work experience and pumping more dollars into the Vestavia Hills economy. During the 2016-2017 school year, the program produced an economic impact of almost $2 million, says Deana Goodwine, head of the career and technical education department at VHHS.
