I As I prepared to lead the Chamber this year, I set four goals, including: 1. Building government relationships. With recent changes at City Hall, I wanted to reach out and establish relationships with the new Mayor and Council members and continue to work closely with the City Manager to support all that they are doing for the business community. 2. Maintaining luncheon success. In recent years, the Chamber has had great luncheon programming and events. One of my goals was to follow in the tradition of other recent chairs and continue to bring in memorable luncheon speakers. At recent events, we've hosted Greg Sankey, commissioner of the Southeastern Conference, James Spann, a meteorologist who needs no introduction, and Edie Hand, Alabama author, speaker, media personality and filmmaker. So I think we're heading in the right direction. 3. Spurring growth. While the Chamber now serves more than 1,175 members, there are many local businesses that aren't benefiting from Chamber membership. This year, myself and our team are focusing on increasing membership growth to benefit more businesses in the area. 4. Having fun. Working hard is always more fun when you're doing something you enjoy. And the people and activities of the Vestavia Hills Chamber are always enjoyable. There will be lots to do this year, and we will have fun while working toward our goals. A Letter from the Board Chair It's an honor for me to serve as a leader in the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce this year. I have the opportunity to serve in a leadership position, my overarching goal is to try to leave the group or organization better than it was before. But with an organization as fabulous as the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce, that is quite a challenge. If you're not associated with the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce, come join us at one of our many community events. Together, we are working to make Vestavia Hills an even better place to live, work, shop and play. Sincerely, Roger D. Steur, 2017 Chair of the Board VESTAVIA HILLS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 10 v e s tav i a h i l l s l i v i n g 2 0 1 7
